The quality and richness of the content, which has always characterized the Enoforum conference, are the basis of the event’s success over the years. The 6th edition also confirms a particularly rich program:

  • 5 invited seminars
  • 40 papers by Italian researchers
  • 16 presentations by foreign researchers
  • more than 50 posters
  • 6 Infowine video seminars

As usual, topics covered range from viticulture to enology, with emphasis on new winery technologies, increasingly careful management of biological processes, and practices that can preserve the most positive chemical components in wine.

SEMINARS

The speakers, who were invited by the organization because of their particular expertise on the subject matter, presented the results of their research by placing them in the framework of current knowledge on oenological or viticultural topics.

MODULES

They are run in collaboration with companies in the industry that invest in research and innovation. Each module is devoted to a specific topic, and consists of multiple papers in which public and private research results are displayed, with extensive application details.

THE TECHNICAL CHALLENGES OF TASTING

Many wineries know how to create innovation, finding technical solutions to produce successful wines under unusual environmental and/or business conditions, with unknown or difficult-to-process varieties, with unusual market goals, espousing unusual production philosophies.

At Enoforum 2009 we gave space to the winemakers involved in these technical challenges: their wines were available for tasting, along with a brief description of the “case study,” and the technicians themselves personally explained what they did and discussed their experience with colleagues. The wines were available throughout the event to be tasted in the order and at the preferred times.

SIVE AWARD “ITALIAN RESEARCH FOR DEVELOPMENT”

Enoforum is an important moment in the evaluation of experimental works nominated for the 2009 SIVE Prize, which aims to reward researchers who produce results most useful to the development of Italian wine production. Twenty-six of the 28 members of the Scientific Committee evaluated the abstracts and summaries of the papers based on the criterion “degree of innovation and scientific value.” The 15 papers that received the highest score in this selection phase were the subject of an oral presentation at Enoforum 2009.

During Enoforum and in the following month, SIVE Members were asked to evaluate the 15 papers in turn on the basis of the criterion “usefulness of the research for the development of Italian wine production”: the one with the best score was awarded the 2009 SIVE Prize.

THE VIDEO SEMINARS

In addition to the classic seminars with physical presence of the foreign speakers, Enoforum in the 2009 edition offered 6 Infowine video-seminars: 40-80 minute reports by international experts on a specific technical topic, selected from the Infowine library and screened in the Ortrugo Room to registered participants. A new, inexpensive and eco-friendly way to gain access to the most advanced knowledge worldwide.

They represent moments of the event dedicated to the life of the association or the presentation of projects and activities of the Italian Society of Viticulture and Enology.
