Piacenza 2007
Successful participation and high-quality content
The fifth edition of Enoforum, the biennial technical and scientific congress organized by SIVE (Italian Society of Viticulture and Enology; www.siveonline.it) and the Vinidea Society (www.vinidea.it), was held in Piacenza.
More than 650 people from all regions of Italy participated in the three days of work, from March 13 to 15: more than 400 agronomists and oenologists engaged in production, a hundred researchers and as many representatives of companies supplying products, equipment and services. The composition of the conference attendees is indicative of the inspiring principles of Enoforum, which aims to be a periodic meeting and comparison event between the world of research, Italian and foreign, Italy’s most qualified technicians and companies actively engaged in technological innovation.
With 60 oral papers and 80 posters, the rich program of the congress offered attendees a comprehensive overview of what is new that has been developed by companies in the field in the last two years, and a snapshot of the studies carried out by the 29 Italian research centers that contributed oral or poster papers.
Enoforum 2007 received the patronage of the OIV (International Organization of Vine and Wine), whose Director General, Dr. Federico Castellucci, gave the opening address, speaking about the organization he heads and giving an overview of current developments in wine production and consumption at the national and global level.
The 6 invited seminars featured three foreign speakers (Charles Edwards from Washington State University, Ch’Ng Poh Tiong publisher and journalist from Singapore and Hernán Ojeda from INRA in Montpellier) and several Italian scholars (Fulvio Mattivi from the San Michele all’Adige Institute, Vittorino Novello from the University of Turin and Attilio Scienza‘s group from the University of Milan).
Technical articles related to the seminars, as well as modules, oral presentations and some posters, will be published in the coming months in the Internet Journal of Viticulture and Enology www.InfoWine.com, distributed in 5 languages to more than 40,000 readers worldwide.
There were a total of 18 modules run in collaboration with companies in the field, encountering considerable audience participation.
