Vicenza 2019
The 11th Italian edition of Enoforum counted 150 papers in three lecture halls during three days of the congress, dedicated to presenting the results of research and development activities carried out in recent years by 84 research groups from all wine-producing countries in the world.
The review of innovations also included the exhibition of 80 posters, the screening of 26 films, the tasting of some 200 experimental wines, and in-depth discussions at 30 company desks.
Such a wealth of new technological proposals attracted 1,200 congressmen from all over Italy to Vicenza, with a growing representation of foreigners. These numbers confirm Enoforum’s European supremacy among wine sector congresses, achieved and consolidated with growing results for three editions now.
“The reason for Enoforum’s success is its inclusive nature,” says Gianni Trioli, president of Piacenza-based VINIDEA, which organizes the event. Enoforum belongs to everyone. Researchers, service and technology providers, oenologists, viticultural agronomists, and wine producers all find space here to showcase their work, express their needs, and engage with other players in the supply chain .
Because innovation belongs to everyone: public research is needed to develop new knowledge or scientifically substantiate insights, but it needs the private research of supplier companies to transform knowledge into applicable technologies in production, and the experimental contribution of vineyard and winery technicians is essential to adapt innovation to the daily work of production and different operational situations. If one of these three pillars is missing, real innovation, in the true sense of a new technology entering practice, is not realized. Enoforum gives everyone equal space and dignity, and therein lies its main originality ”.
Consistent with these principles, all the organizations representing the various players in Italian viticulture and winemaking have been progressively involved in Enoforum: SIVE (Società Italiana di Viticoltura ed Enologia), Assoenologi (Associazione Enologi EnotecniciItaliani) eCONAF (Consiglio dell’Ordine Nazionale dei Dottori Agronomi e dei Dottori Forestali), which associate all wine technicians; Unione Italiana Vini and the international association Oenoppia, which represent the main wine producers and companies providing services and technologies; and CREA (Council for Research in Agriculture and Analysis of the Agricultural Economy), which analyzes and animates the network of research centers dealing with agriculture in Itala.
For many editions Enoforum has had the patronage of the OIV (International Organization of Vine and Wine) and MIFAAFT (Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Forestry and Tourism). The Vicenza edition is also sponsored by the Veneto Region.
The biennial event was held in the convention center of the Vicenza fairgrounds, a facility that has hosted the event for three editions, picking up the baton from Arezzo, Piacenza, Conegliano and Montesilvano, where previous editions were held. At the close of the event, the Enoforum 2020 venues were announced, to be held in Vila Real in Portugal and Zaragoza in Spain in May, celebrating the seventh and second editions, respectively; the next Enoforum in Italy will be in 2021.
