Sergi Astals is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Barcelona. He has over 15 years of experience in biotechnologies for the treatment, resource recovery and valorization of industrial and municipal wastewater and solid waste. His research focuses on anaerobic digestion, organic waste fermentation, struvite precipitation, nitrogen recovery, and, more recently, in biological methanation. Sergi has published over 100 papers in scientific journals and is included in Stanford’s list of the top 2% most cited scientists worldwide
